After 12 since founded Leeds based charity Spider-Y has attracted the eye of Leeds Rhinos Foundation and along with the wheelchair Rugby League team that has carried the Brand since  2012, the long standing and very succesful Wheelchair Basketball Team Leeds Spiders will formerly change its name to Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Basletball Team under the full banner of Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair, Spider-Y chairman Andrew Gardner explained the reasons behind the merger, " after several years spearheading the charity and sports clubs, spending many hours weather thats at training or at home behind the computer filling out countless funding applications or worse still monitoring forms. i decided i needed to take time out, and over a social discussion about all things sporting wise we turned to Bob Bowman CEO of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and asked if they would be interested in having us on board. The Wheels were certainly in motion and after 12 months of discussions and meetings we can know finally reveal our future which will include been part of one of the biggest and best Proffesional Sports Club Foundations in the world.

Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Rugby League team are the current champions of the United Kingdom and its first team currently top of the New Wheelchair RL Super League 2019 and our newely formed development side holding they own in the Challenge Trophy and head to the Semi final against Gravesend Dynamite on 8th June at Morley leisure Centre, Leeds, LS27 9JP. Rhinos 1st Team are away the week before to they local neghbours The Argonauts ( Dartford) 2nd June 1330 ko.

Rhinos then head into the start of the 3 game clash with previous champions Halifax which see 2 away games to them on the trot first Super League 16/06/19 the Challenge Cup Semi Final on 30/06/19 with the winner going on to the Challenge Cup final on 17th August Venue (TBC)

Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Basketball Team have started the process to rebuild the the teams for the new BWB season 2019-2020 and are looking for player new and old to come and join the club with a great future ahead, Rhinos have major aspirations of getting the club back to the Premier League in style and the club could become one of the biggest disability sports clubs in the United Kingdom.

Andrew Gardner will continue to work with the foundation using his vast knowledge and expertise in wheelchair sports at local, regional and international level will help the foundation continue his hardwork over the years.

Training at Morley Leisure Centre Wednesday 7pm - 8:30pm Development Rugby League 8pm - 10pm Super League Training., Thursday 8pm - 10pm Wheelchair Basketball Open sessions until September.

Sportschairs are provided but limited on numbers, Full coaching provided by BWB Level 2 graded coaching volunteers, and RFL Level WRL coaching volunteers.

All Volunteers are vetted and clear to volunteer, we are alway on the look out for more Players and Volunteers, training and fun provided.

SPIDER-Y is happy to announce additional Ambassadors to our charity to increase maximum exposure for the work we do.

We have invited the following members of our Basketball and Rugby teams to join our Patron Hannah Cockroft MBE, current Ambassadors Harry Brown and Sophie Carrigill on the ambassador register, in doing so we are recognising these indivduals and these achievment over the last 12 months and wish them luck in the coming years whever thats in Rio 2016 or in Australia 2017. Well after what has been an amazing Summer of Sport for all our athletes past and present weither it was at Junior regionals, School Games , WhRL Grand final, The Paralympics in Rio and also to those taking part in the forth coming 4 Nations Wheelchair Rugby League Competion in Rochdale on 24th and 25th September.

On behalf of SPIDER-Y we would like to congratulate our Patron Hananh Cockroft another 3 Golds, Harry Brown Bronze Medal, Sophie Carrigill Record breaker, Coral Batey all your hard work the last couple of years is paying off, Welcome home, time for a rest sit back and watch your friends and team mates take on the 4 Nations.

So Rio's finish next up Rochdale and the Wheelchair Rugby League 4 Nations Tournement #Rio2Rochdale -

England WhRL take on the home nations at the 3rd 4 nations tournement and its back up North, the first 4 nations was held in Hull in 2012 just before London Paralypics, then held in Medway home of England WhRL in 2014, with Engalnd winning both these competitions. England feature no less than 5 Leeds Rhinos Players Including joint Captain James Simpson(A), along with Jodie Boyd-Ward(A), Tom Halliwell(A), and debutants Ryan Richardson and Nathan Collins along with Sebastien Bechara who featured in Rhinos last season is an impressive line up and shows how far Leeds Rhinos have moved forward in the last couple of years. In Addition to these we are happy to confrim that another 4 of our players have been selected to represent the Exiles ( Other Nations) in the 4 Nations Tony Godward, Luis Domngos, Ewan Clibbens and Joshua Butler, WOW thats a massive achiement for our charity.

All and all 2016 has been an amazing year for SPIDER-Y and its Team, Players and Staff endless awards and recognition and we can only build on this success.

Has part of our ongoing awareness campaign and continued progression towards making disability Sports more apararent in everyday life we at SPIDER-Y have been working hard behind to scenes to get this working so people can watch all over the world the great sports programmes we have at SPIDER Y.

For the last couple of month's we have been trialling several different types of live streaming, like periscope, Live stream and many more some of these we will still use depending on venue and Internet connections in the local area.

With the lead up to Rio 2016 we hope to give better insight into disability sports to a wider audience and bring in new players and volunteers.

Leeds Spiders Premier League and Division 3 games will feature on our YouTube Channel Leeds Spider Y for all home games this season and maybe other source away from home and next season Leeds Rhinos will utilise the streaming to get Wheelchair Rugby League out to the vieing public.

SPIDER- Y is seeking to recruit a voluntary statistician to provide high quality statistics for our home games playing in the Premier League Wheelchair Basketball competitions for 2015-2016.

The production of game stats will allow coaches and individuals to evaluate individual and team performance, enabling them to focus on areas of improvement and capitalise on strong points. Games stats will be available following the games via the Premier League fixtures/results page of the GBWBA Website.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Delivery of Statistics via Fiba live stats on game day, Taking statistics at games is ever easy, but now FIBA have made the job of capturing game statistics much easier using FIBA Live Stats.

The program facilitates the capture of game statistics as they happen, and also allows webcasts to stream information live on the internet for all to see.

BWB statistician receive a match day payment of £12 plus expenses these will be agreed prior to appointment. Laptop and printer provided on match days.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge and understanding of basketball stats acquired through relevant academic study (either studied as a module or as an academic qualification to degree standard)
  • Excellent knowledge level of Basketball or wheelchair basketball
  • A basic knowledge of MS Excel and Fiba Live stats

This exciting role would suit candidates currently studying sports and performance analysis or keen to gain further experience in this field.

This position is a voluntary role and would involve some evening and weekend working due to the nature of the role.

WRL Festival 2013

Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Rugby League are proud to announce two Wheelchair Rugby League Festivals in Leeds

25th Aug 11– 4 pm at Morley Leisure Centre -

8th Sept 10-4pm at John Charles Indoor Athletics Centre

Both days will be based around development clubs having competitive games against teams of equal strength and numbers.

On the 8th Sept we are combining the day with the Leeds to Rio Festival where other disability sports will be on offer all day, around the Centres other facilities. And will include a featured game from some of the players from this years World Cup Teams, including England , Ireland
and special teams from Leeds Rugby Foundation, New Zealand Exiles.

Teams can register interest from today for both festivals and must provide playing tops and chairs.
