New Coaching Team
New Coaching Team set for 2014-2015
SPIDER-Y Management Committee is pleased to announce that we have secured the services of a great new coaching team.
With Spiders saying farewell to the much loved and great character John Sharp, we had to bring in a team that will learn from John over the next couple of months.
Spider-Y can introduce.
Division 1 - Head Coach Mathew Micklethwaite.
Mathew comes with good back ground knowledge of spiders as he helped out with the under 15s last year, and will take control of a number of our under 19s who’ve been selected for England North for this year’s School games.
Mathew is head coach this for England North so taking his new stock to Manchester EIS in September will be a great start to the season.
Mathew said “I have been involved with basketball for nearly 12 years as both a player and a coach. I started coaching able bodied basketball at the Bradford Dragons and worked with every team from under 12 up to division 2 Men and women’s. in my last season coaching AB basketball I was head coach for the University of Bradford women's 2nd team and also Head coach of the Bradford Dragons women's team. After this I decided I wanted to get involved within wheelchair basketball and completed my Grade 1. I was instantly hooked on the sport! over the past few years I have built my own team in Bradford, assistant coached for England North at the 2013 school games where we won Gold! And most recently been appointed head coach of England North for 2014 school games and also Head coach for the Yorkshire regional performance centre. I am looking forward to Head coaching the Spiders in Division 1 and helping to build on the ambition and passion at the Spiders! We have big plans and hope you will join us on our journey! “
Division 3 - Coach Jules Deumeni.
Jules was introduced to spiders through Street games a new Sports initiative that bring sports to local community, which spiders are just awaiting funding bid to allow us to bring those without transport to our training sessions thanks to Josh G who has been working with street games over the last couple of months, this will also bring additional educational training for our members in the future.
Jules said “Joining Spiders is a good opportunity and a next challenge for me. I’ve coached and played Football/Tennis/basketball/handball/swimming/Table Tennis and many other sports. Now I've got an opportunity to use all these coaching skill in wheelchair basketball. I was impressed with the facility at Morley. A good group of young and adult players willing to learn and improve their skills. I will be pleased to input my skills, knowledge and experience in order to improve their stamina skill, technical skill, tactical skill and vision of the game.”
Division 1 Captain & Coach Jack Brown.
Jack needs little introduction he’s played Basketball for years also helped coach our junior teams, Yorkshire Under 15s for 5/6 years, played an integral part over the last 3 years for Spiders including an amazing 269points last year in Division 1.
Division 3 Captain & Coach Josh Gardner.
Josh is continuing his growth as both a player and coach learning and improving, this year Josh will assist Mathew for England North at the school games, so keep in the link at Club , Regional and National level will be a massive positive for Leeds Spiders.
Along with our new coaching Team, we are looking to set up our own Women’s Team (The Black Widows) this to compete in Women’s Div 2 so if you’re interested please contact Andy Gardner.
SPIDER-Y would like to welcome Mathew and Jules on board and wish them luck along with Jack and Josh all have full support from all the back room staff.
Leeds Spiders will be fielding 5 Teams this coming season Division One North, Division Three North East, Under 19s and Under 15s Junior League North, and Women’s Division Two.
We are always looking for new and established players to come and join our Club.
