Sport Relief Challenge
Leeds Spiders and Sainsbury's Headrow Leeds Sport Relief Mile Challenge.
On Sunday the 25th March Leeds Spiders and the Staff of Sainsbury's the Headrow continued our yearlong partnership and took on the challenge of the Sport Relief mile.
In Fact it was more than a normal everyday challenge just getting to the start line.
The day started at 7:30am setting up our base outside the Headrow Store on Dortmund Square.
James Wright, Store Manager:
The sport relief mile presented us with the opportunity to continue to build on our great relationship with the Leeds Spiders. In the partnership on the day i am really proud that all involved, both from the Spiders and from Sainsbury's Headrow Team, really got behind the event and showed what can be achieved in a partnership. We collected a fantastic amount for the sport relief charity and had a great day at the same time.
In total we had 20 wheelchairs and 8 runners completing a total of 72 miles, with 6 mile pushes from Andy Atkinson and Harry Brown, and Sainsbury staff completing the full 6 miles as well. With sponsorship money still been collected Leeds Spiders are on way to beating the achievement of £998.00 back in 2010.
After completing the mile and a couple of hours demonstrating Wheelchair Basketball in the sunshine, it was and ideal time for a photo opportunity and to update us on how much money staff and customers of the Headrow branch have raised for the club, including staff volunteering grants this year, a staggering £5668.49 so far has been raised towards next seasons cost for the wheelchair basketball club.
Karen Heppell, PR Ambassador, It was a great opportunity for colleagues to get involved with our store charity and help raise money for sport relief. The mile in a wheelchair challenged even the fittest of colleagues and i have great admiration for the Leeds Spiders Team and the colleagues who tuck up the challenge. I look forwards to continue working with and fund raising for the Leeds Spiders as our store charity of the year.
